Bitch and the Beast (Mel/Effy) Empty Bitch and the Beast (Mel/Effy)

It had been three months. Three ridiculously long months, since 'it' happened. Since everything went to Hell. It had been over bloody three months since Mel had last time talked to her friends - her ex-friends.

She sometimes (a lot of times) thought about it, how it would've gone differently had she acted differently. She sometimes thought about them, as well, wondering what they were doing, with whom they were and how they had it. If they were has miserable as she was.

She had been having one of those days, where she just sat still, doing nothing but thinking about stuff - about how everything sucked. But her dorm room had been crowded, and not silent enough with all the giggling girls, so she'd slipped outside and gone to the meadow to get some time to think in the silence.

But the red head was really starting to regret that, it was way too silent, there was way too much room to think about things that she didn't really want to think about.

Elizabeth followed her out to the medow. She had caught the unforgettable hair colour heading out, and had jumped at the chance to talk to the girl. It was time she approached the girl after all. Unfortunately she didn't have much of a plan when it came to the redhead. At least she had some kind of reason to talk to Jack and Leo. This one was a whole other ball field though.

As she realised where they were going, she felt slightly calmer, knowing that, personally, she did enjoy spending time in the medow. She hung back slightly as they walked, eventually picking up to a normal speed, her footsteps heavy enough for the other girl to hear her.

Walking up beside the other girl, Elizabeth abandoned her usual games in starting conversation, simply turning to give the other girl a friendly smile, before looking up at the sky. "It's a nice day out, isn't it?"

Mel wrapped her arms around her knees, she could hear something, behind her but she didn't mind it, she just kept staring forward - at nothing.

But when the girl sat down next to her, Mel was forced to break her gaze and look at her. The red head hadn't seen her before, which Mel found strange; the girl was too tall and looked definitely too old to be a firstie. "It's okay." Mel responded, shrugging as she leaned her chin on her knees. "It's a bit too hot, I'd say. There's no wind."

Elizabeth sucked in a breath at the redhead's reply, not really surprised at the short, bland reply. She hadn't really been expecting much luck with this one after all. She persevered though, figuring she'd give it another try before she left.

"Are you not one for the heat?" she asked, trying to look interested. But man, she really did not care. This who acting thing was proving to be a lot harder than she thought it would be.

Mel groaned. Sometimes she really just wanted to be left alone, but then again it had been way too quiet, earlier. Maybe she should just suck it up and talk to this stranger, even though she didn't really want to.

"I like the wind." Mel replied. "And the rain and the snow. Sun is okay, but too much of it, is not."

The read head studied the girl next to her, feeling weird that she couldn't place her. "Who are you?" the words slipped out before she could stop herself, so she decided it would be best to rephrase them. "I mean.. like why don't I remember seeing you, here before?"

Elizabeth refrained from rolling her eyes at the groan she caught from the girl. She was slightly whiny, wasn't she? Though Elizabeth had to remind herself not to annoy the girl too much. She did have a bit of a temper from what Elizabeth had observed.

She was almost ready to give up when the girl answered her, not seeing this conversation going very far. Perhaps she should try again at a later date, simply leave the girl to mope. Girls did seem to love to mope.

The question caught her by surprise. "I'm a transfer student," she explained, hoping this was the start of a conversation. "I've only been here for a while. I was homeschooled before."

Mel sighed wishfully. "I wish I was home schooled." on a second thought, no she didn't, she wouldn't learn anything because her parents never had time to spend with her, not even during their holidays.

"Why did you transfer here?" she asked, curiously. "Wanted to meet a talking lion? That's a popular answer."

Mel turned her body completely, so she could have a clear vision of the girl. "I'm Mel." she decided to introduce herself in the hope the girl would do so too, after all it was getting annoying having to refer to the girl as "The girl" in her head.

Elizabeth tried not to smirk, finding it amusing that ths redhead wasn't the first person to tell her that since she arrived at the school. The question did instil more hope in her that this little venture wasn't a lost cause.

"Talking lion certainly is a sight to see. But I transfered here because I wanted the experience," she lied, looking out across the area. "I was homeschooled all my life, it gives for very limited socialisation. There's only so much time you can spend with a sister who's a lot younger than you before you hit things you can't talk to her about."

"I'm Elizabeth," she answered with a smile, pleased that it was going somewhere. "It's nice to meet you, Mel. May I ask what House you are?"

Talking to the girl was getting a bit easier, and Mel didn't find herself wishing that she'd leave, like she had before.

She didn't really fancy the company, but it wasn't worse then the complete silence. "I'm a Pyxis," Mel replied to the girl's question. "A green person, thankfully, it goes best with my hair." She frowned. "Or well red would look weird against it, blue might be okay though." but then she'd have to be in a house with Leo and right now she did not fancy that (not that she would've fancied being in a house with both Jack and Zoltan, she would've quit.)

After a moment of silence, Mel decided it would be best to ask the girl the same question, she was a bit curious about it anyway. "What house are you, Elizabeth?" Mel rowned a llittle, using her name felt weird.

Elizabeth chuckled slightly at the comment about the girl's hair. Green probably did go better with it than red. "I imagine it would clash a little with red, but it's a very nice colour. And green is also a nice colour, one of my favourites," she said, chatting aimlessly. It really did seem that she would be carrying most of the conversation.

"I'm a blue person," she replied with a lopsided smile. "Which I'm grateful for. I may like green, but I think I look better in blue. And red's such an unsubtle colour," and she prided herself on her ability to be subtle. When she wanted to be. "So in your face, hard to forget type thing. Which isn't always bad."
